Tough loss for the U14 Boys Premier who were defeated 1-2 by Florida Rush in the FYSA State Cup Final. The boys end the season as this year's runner-up in the 2013 FYSA State Cup. Great run boys and excellent season!
Full Game Report: Fire U14 boys lost a closely contested state championship in Auburndale, FL today to Florida Rush. FFJ took an early lead after some good work from Weston Maki on the left. His threaded pass found Chris Pilavis who slotted home. A 2nd goal almost materialized when the Rush goalkeepers punt hit Meme and rebounded goal wards to hit the post before bouncing back into the GK’s hands. A frenetic 1st half ended with the single goal lead to the fire.
The 2nd half started with the Fire getting a better grip on possession. A number of referee decisions went against the Fire in particular when Weston Maki was caught late after a shot inside the box with a strong case for a penalty was denied by the ref. This was a turning point. Soon after a long free kick was put into the fire box which GK Alan Morales came for but was impeded by a couple of rush players but no call from the ref allowed rush to put the ball into the net for the tying goal. A few minutes later another long ball was put into the box and in the mayhem the ball the linesman signaled it had crossed the line for the go ahead goal for the Rush. The fire fought hard to get back into the game after these setbacks but to no avail.
