Chicago Fire Juniors Announce Mayors Cup ‘All Tournament’ Team

CHICAGO (February 21, 2015) —  The journey began for the Chicago Fire Juniors players last summer, when hundreds of hopefuls took part in a three-day Identification Camp for talented players from the nine clubs in the Fire Juniors network. The players that shined in the camp were selected to form four ‘Fire Juniors Elite SC’ teams. The teams were invited to attend the renowned Mayor Cup International Showcase in Las Vegas, Nevada from February 12-16, 2015.
 
The teams arrived in Nevada on Feb. 12 and traveled to the Teton Trail practice field in Las Vegas to train. The Fire Juniors Elite SC teams played friendlies against Wisconsin Fire before taking to the practice field on Feb. 13 to develop team formations and set pieces prior to the showcase. The showcase kicked off on Saturday, Feb. 14 with two days of group games, and semi-final and final games taking place on Monday, Feb. 16. As a whole, the teams went 8-4-5, with 25 goals for and 18 goals against throughout the Showcase.

 

 

Individual team results include:
Fire Juniors Elite SC U15 Girls went 3 games without defeat before stumbling to eventual tournament winners and narrowing missing out in 2nd place in the group by goal differential. The teams kicked of Day 1 by securing two 0-0 ties against Highline Premier (Washington) and Albuquerque Utd (New Mexico) with goalkeepers Morris (CFJ North) and Lynn (CFJ City) both keeping clean sheets. The team overcame an organized Joga Futebole (Utah) 2-0 on Day 2, with goals from Dudley and Frankhouse (MI Fire Juniors). In the final game in the group stages the team fell 4-0 to local Nevada team Heat FC and finished third in the ‘adidas west’ bracket. 
 
U15 Girls Roster: Brennan, Gomez, Lynn, Nelson, Ulloque (CFJ City), Morris (CFJ North), Vicens (CFJ North Gold) Boyd, Strolla (CFJ South), Delf, DeYoung, Dudley, Frankhouse and Peasley (MI Fire Juniors); Head Coach:  Brett Gregory (Kentucky Fire Juniors).
 
Fire Juniors Elite SC U15 Boys kicked off Mayors Cup with two 0-0 ties to Casa Boca (N California) and Players Academy (Neveda).  Cahr (CFJ City) kept two clean sheets for the team. The team fell 4-0 to Real Azteca De Ensenda (Mexico) and 3-1 to Joga Futebole, and finished 4th in their group.

 

U15 Boys Roster: Beiglmeier, Cahr, De La Feunte, Flowers, Ljung, Pratt, Sibul, Valencia, Villasenor (CFJ City), Miller ( CFJ North), Mho (CFJ North Gold), Margas, Podczerwinski, Tinlay (CFJ South), Ramierz Medina (FL Fire Juniors) and Gibson (MI Fire Juniors). Fire Juniors Elite SC U16/17 Girls clinched the Mayor Cup after 5 convincing wins. The team topped their group with three wins and recorded an impressive 11 goals scored and 2 goals against. The team got off to flying start with a 3-1 over Fairbanks Eclipse (Alaska) with goals from Rogge, Hatch & Swope (all FL Fire Juniors). The team then took on Canadians Surrey Pegasus and won 4-1 with goals from Whithaar (CFJ West), Rodriquez (CFJ City), Hatch (FL Fire Juniors) & Grant (CFJ West). On Day 2, the team swept aside Real Colorado 7-0 with goalkeeper Poinstein (MI Fire Juniors) keeping a clean sheet. In the semi-final the team came up against Utah Glory and held on to a 1-0 win before heading to the cup final. The opponents in the ‘adidas west’ championship final were old foes Surrey Pegaus but despite a relatively easy win in the group stages, the Canadians held the Fire Juniors to a 1-1 tie after 60mins. With no goals from either team in overtime the game went to penalty kicks with the girls in red repeating their success in 2014 and being crowned Mayor Cup Champions once again.   

 

U16/17 Girls Roster: Rodriguez (CFJ City),Nunez, Santellano (CFJ North), DeVaux, Fisher, Grant, Withaar (CFJ West), Hatch, Moses, Rogge, Swope (FL Fire Juniors), Diagostino, Wampler, Zentz (IN Fire Juniors), Kozachik and Poinstein (MI Fire Juniors). Head Coach: Tim Nowak (Kentucky Fire Juniors)
 
Fire Juniors Elite SC U16/17 Boys secured a 1-0 win in their first game against Heat FC (Nevada) with a PK goal from Suarez (CFJ City) and clean sheet from Szymasek (CFJ NG) and Konnerman (KY Fire Juniors). Game 2 saw the team record an impressive 7-0 win against Durnago Utd (Colordo) with goals from Barth [2] (KY Fire Juniors), Taylor [2] (CFJ South), Ventura [2] (FL Fire Juniors), Suarez and clean sheet from Szymasek and Konnerman. Despite a 2-2 tie with FC Milan Deportivo USA (N California) the team finished top of their group and set up a game with Casa Boca (N California) in the semi-final. Little separated the two teams and the game ended 2-2 before entering into penalty kicks with the west coast team progressing to the finals and the Fire Juniors finishing the tournament as beaten semi-finalists.
