Recently this year our son experienced some irregular heart beats on the field. These irregular beats caused him to go down on one knee and leave the field. Since then, we have had several doctor visits, heart monitors, EKG’s, stress tests and Echo-cardiograms. Thankfully everything checked out fine. However, this experience made my family aware of the need to have ALL coaches that are on the field with our children CPR certified. In the event of an emergency I want to know that there is an adult on that field who can handle a cardiac event. There are times when our children are left at practice while we are caring for other children, or sometimes even traveling to games in different locations due to scheduling conflicts. As any parent does, I want to know that my children are well cared for. All coaches are required to take a concussion training course before the season starts, which is great. However, in the event of a cardiac event, there is no similar requirement from Florida Youth Soccer Association. I am happy to report that we have raised enough money to get the necessary CPR training for our Florida Fire Soccer Coaching Staff. Thank you for all of the families and businesses that made this possible!
We are pleased to announce that as of the 2015/2016 all coaches will be CPR trained! We will also be using all additional money raised to start implementing first aid kits for each coach. If you are interested in making a donation to help us complete the First Aid kits please contact me, Nicole Spinelli, [email protected].
